I am from the Palmetto State of South Carolina where I was born and raised in a small town on the outskirts of Augusta, Georgia, also known as the home of The Masters Golf Tournament (for all you golf fans out there). This is my 12th year of teaching at RTMS and I enjoy every minute of it! While here, I have had the opportunity of teaching all levels of 6th grade Social Studies for my first 6 years and all levels of Language Arts for 4 years. I am back to teaching Social Studies again for my 2nd year and could not be more excited, for it is my true passion! I consider myself lucky because teaching both subjects has and will enable me to make strong connections across the curriculum for my students and will allow me to share my love of each subject. You will get the best of both worlds!
I graduated with my Bachelors of Science in Middle Grades Education from the University of Georgia (GO DAWGS!) in 2004 and later went on to graduate with my Masters in Middle Grades Education from Mercer University in July 2012. I absolutely love to learn!
I have been married for almost four years this October to my wonderful husband, and we have a sweet, determined and busy little toddler boy who recently turned 2!! We also have two four legged babies- a golden retriever named Wilson and one beagle-pointer mix named Maebelle. In my spare time, I love reading, running, traveling to new places, being crafty and decorating. I enjoy spending as much time as possible with my family and friends, especially on the dock of my parents 5 acre pond!
I am could not be more thrilled about teaching Social Studies on Team B and that YOU are in my class! It's going to be a great year!
Fun Facts:
I have never mowed a lawn before.
I love chocolate.
I learned to drive on a dirt road while sitting on a pillow because I was too short to reach the pedals.
I love coffee.
I met Orlando Bloom on a movie set in Kentucky. ( He was very nice, VERY cute and very tall.)
I love music- all kinds.
I played percussion in middle school and was the only girl drummer in 8th grade.
My husband was born and raised in the great state of Alaska!
I love the beach, especially Tybee Island, GA.
I love things that are monogrammed.
I love to watch just about anything on HGTV!
The furthest west that I have visited in the contiguous United States is Denver, Colorado.
The furthest south in the world that I have visited is St. Marteen Island in the Caribbean.
